Killarney National Park

Hiking

Hikers are spoilt for choice in the UNESCO Biosphere of Killarney National Park, famous for its craggy peaks, including Ireland’s highest mountain range, the MacGillycuddy Reeks.

Peaks to climb

Torc Mountain

An accessible but rewarding climb along part of the Kerry Way, with wooden sleepers underfoot and panoramic views of Killarney’s three lakes, the Reeks and Muckross House.

Strickeen Mountain

Meaning “little peak”, Strickeen is one of the more accessible Reeks, a great walk for families and beginners, with views to the Dingle Peninsula from the Gap of Dunloe.

Mangerton Mountain

A moderate-to-difficult hike 5 km from Killarney, taking in the Devil’s Punchbowl, the MacGillycuddy Reeks and the Paps.

Carrauntoohil

Ireland’s highest peak at 1,039 m. A six-to-seven-hour, 12 km return, most commonly via the Devil’s Ladder, with views of the Black Valley and Gap of Dunloe.
